Vestige 8”x16”, acrylic on canvas $950.00 St Joseph’s Cultural Center in Grass Valley was built in 1866 and was originally home to the Sisters of Mercy who housed, clothed and fed orphan children until the 1930’s. Today this historic cultural landmark hosts a variety of events that expand and enrich our community—offering us each a unique opportunity to share this space as part of our home. In 2015, Tibetan Monks were invited to create a sand mandala in the chapel. Colorful flags and the sand art transformed this space, merging cultures and different faiths into one transient experience. As I left the chapel, the colors and light streaming from the window impressed upon me this incredible opportunity, forever depicted and memorialized in the stained glass. |
